Commute

The first read

Medford is the hub: the valley's largest city, its medical and retail center, and the place with the airport, the major employers, and the widest choice of neighborhoods. If you want the shortest commute and the most services, this is where the search starts.

The feel of the town

Medford is a working valley city, not a resort. That is its virtue: everything you need is here, from the Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport to regional hospitals and the Craterian theater downtown. East Medford sits on the slopes of Roxy Ann Peak with its farms and foothill views; west Medford is flatter, closer to the old downtown and the orchards.

Food & drink

The food scene has grown steadily: Buttercloud Bakery for pastries, Mellelo and Outsider Coffee for the daily cup, Forage Coffee Company and Solid Ground for slow mornings downtown. Pear Blossom days in April bring street fairs and the valley's signature small-town parade.

Outdoors

Outside time

The Bear Creek Greenway is the valley's great shared amenity, a paved path network that runs through Medford and connects all the way to Ashland. Prescott Park sits on Roxy Ann Peak with hiking and views, and access to the rest of the valley is minutes away in every direction.

Schools

Schools & classes

Medford School District 549C operates two comprehensive high schools, North Medford High and South Medford High, and the deep bench of schools and programs is one reason so many households settle here. The district also serves neighboring Jacksonville and Ruch, so school life reaches well beyond the city limits.

Neighborhoods

Where people live

East Medford offers homes on the Roxy Ann slopes with wide views. Neighborhoods around the north end of town cluster near schools and the Greenway. Foothill Road and the orchard edges give you country-adjacent living with the city's services five minutes away.

Pear Blossom Festival

April

The valley's signature spring tradition since 1954: a street fair, food and beverage tents, the Smudge Pot Stroll, and the big Pear Blossom Parade down Main Street, celebrating the orchards that made Medford.

Rogue Valley Growers & Crafters Market

Thursday mornings, March through November

More than a hundred growers, crafters, and food vendors fill Hawthorne Park every Thursday: the biggest market day in the valley and the best way to meet the region's farming community.

Third Friday Art Walk

third Friday of each month

Downtown Medford's galleries and shops stay open into the evening for a monthly celebration of the local art scene, with new shows, live music, and late supper tables.

Food Truck Third Thursdays

third Thursday of each month, March through December

Food trucks line Main Street and stores stay open late, a monthly block-party habit for families that makes downtown Medford feel like a small town.

Medford Winter Lights

early December

An evening festival at Pear Blossom Park with tree lighting, a light parade, and fireworks: the official opening of the valley's holiday season.
